External Programs
and Learning Technologies (EPLT) offers professional development courses
and programs for teachers and working professionals throughout British
Columbia. Direct Instruction courses are:
In a classroom setting - these are face-to-face
courses with an instructor and fellow students.
Offered in various districts throughout B.C.
- convenient, off-campus locations to serve those who are unable
to come to the UBC Campus. Venues include local schools, and
specialty locations such as the Vancouver Art Gallery, The Vancouver
Aquarium, and Science World.
Designed to facilitate the schedules of practicing
teachers and professionals - there are various delivery
formats which can include weeknights, weekends, or week-long
summer institutes.

CREDIT: Current and eligible UBC Students
can register for courses using the Student
Service Centre.
NOTE: If you wish to take a course for credit you must be admitted to UBC and be eligible to register in the session in which the course is being offered. For information

NON-CREDIT: Some Direct Instruction courses
offer a non-credit option. This is for people who are not
UBC students, but are interested in the content of the course.
Non-credit students will not receive a grade or any
indication on their transcript of having attended the course,
but will receive the same course content as all other participants.
To register in a course for non-credit, please contact our office to request a non-credit application form (tel. 604-822-2013, eplt.educ@ubc.ca).
Note: All course offerings are subject to enrollment. Refer to UBC's Refund Policy (Winter Session or Summer Session) for information on course refunds.
