Opportunities for Professional Development
and Continuing Education

Welcome to External Programs and Learning Technologies.

The mandate of EPLT is to work collaboratively with academic units in the Faculty of Education and outside groups to offer innovative programs that respond to the learning needs of educators in British Columbia and elsewhere. These programs are delivered using a variety of formats and in locations convenient for busy professionals.

Our aim is to design and deliver programs in a way that permits academic staff and program participants to concentrate on the learning experience rather than administrative details. We welcome inquiries from individuals and groups who may wish to discuss credit or non-credit programs tailored to the needs and circumstances of educators working in schools, colleges, universities and the community. I invite you to explore our website to see the range of programs offered and the kinds of services we offer. If you have a question or would like to explore a program idea, please feel free to contact us.

Dr. Tom Sork
Associate Dean

These programs are varied, and maintain the highest degree of academic quality while striving to be convenient, accessible and flexible. To that end, different delivery models are used.

M.Ed. Cohort programs are offered in several off-campus locations and are responsive to the various needs and interests of teachers, administrators and districts.

The Master of Educational Technology is a fully online, internationally recognized degree program, and also offers two related graduate certificate programs).

We also offer administrative and technical support for a wide range of Distance Education courses using advanced on-line technologies.

Direct Instruction courses are located off-campus in convenient locations and are designed to facilitate the schedules of practicing education professionals. Locations are selected according to the syllabus and instructional goals of the course, and include school districts, HR MacMillan Space Centre, Vancouver Aquarium and Science World.

Summer Institutes focus on specific topics and may be taken on a credit or non-credit basis, individually or as a part of an existing program. Speciality areas have included Early Childhood Education, Music Education, and Infant Development - to name a few.

Certificate and Diploma programs are available for teachers or anyone interested in updating skills or enhancing knowledge.

Our office arranges or announces Conferences, Workshops and Institutes on the UBC campus and at convenient off-campus locations. These have been designed for Canadian and international learners.
