Staff Profiles

Dr. Tom Sork
Tom Sork is the Associate Dean for External Programs and Learning Technologies. He is responsible for the overall direction of the unit with a particular responsibility for the MET program. He meets on a regular basis with the Directors and Managers to discuss issues arising. He represents EPLT on the Dean’s Advisory Committee, chairs the External Programs Advisory Committee and works with CMS to provide learning technology support to the Faculty.


Mark Edwards  

Dr. Mark Edwards
Mark is the Director of External Programs and Learning Technologies. One of his passions is mobilizing the remarkable research of UBC’s Faculty of Education in service of children in British Columbia and around the world. Mark facilitates collaborative working relationships between the Faculty and the field for the development and provision of off-campus M. Ed. programs, Diploma programs and Certificate programs. Mark assists in the planning, marketing, and delivery of Distance Education, Direct Instruction, and Cohort courses and programs.


Shaheen Jivraj  

Shaheen Jivraj-Sangara
Shaheen Jivraj-Sangara, Director of Business Development, is responsible for the business operations of the unit, including Finance and HR. Her role is centered around working with the team to ensure the unit continues to be in a self-sustaining position while providing staff, students and faculty with the service and support they require to be successful.

Shaheen is currently on leave until February 2009.

SHAPOOR MARFATIA
Shapoor Marfatia is the Director of Business Development and is responsible for the business operations of the unit, including Finance and HR. His role is centered around working with the team to ensure the unit continues to be in a self-sustaining position while providing staff, students and faculty with the service and support they require to be successful.


Dr. David Vogt  

Dr. David Vogt
David Vogt creates, leads and participates in innovative applied research projects which: 1) pioneer the potential of Internet and new media technologies for learning; and 2) build strategic partnerships for and within UBC. The objective of these projects is to apply and enhance UBC's capability for outstanding research and development focused on the future of learning. David also helps EPLT and UBC in leading implementations of that future.


Judy Bird  

Judy Bird
Judy Bird looks after the financial accounting side of the EPLT office. She is responsible for ensuring that all payroll is processed and that all vendors are paid using the various online systems recently rolled-out by Financial Services. Judy also maintains thorough and detailed accounting records for the office.

Natasha Boskic  

Natasha Boskic
Natasha Boskic helps instructors design, develop and deliver online courses, both on undergraduate and graduate level. She also offers technical support with WebCT. Natasha gives one-on-one tutorials and workshops on WebCT and instructional design to new EPLT instructors, as well as to a larger UBC community. She has been involved in different other projects, exploring international collaboration, online learning communities, ePortfolio implementation, accessibility issues, and others.


Heather Mcgregor  

Heather Mcgregor
Heather McGregor manages the marketing and communication campaigns for programs administered by the unit, creates & designs marketing materials and oversees the development of the website. In addition Heather manages the Master of Educational Technology program, and supports a number of international and special projects undertaken by EPLT each year.


Jo-Anne Chilton  

Jo-Anne Chilton
As a Senior Program Assistant for the Faculty of Education’s distance education online undergraduate courses and direct instruction off-campus programs, Jo-Anne's main focus is to provide student support. As well, Jo-Anne coordinates course scheduling with the Director and departments. Additionally, in collaboration with both EPLT and UBC staff she implements effective administrative processes for both students and the distance education & direct instruction instructors.


Tracey Degner  

Tracey Degner
As a Senior Program Assistant, Tracey Degner's main responsibilities are in the administration and support of a portion the M. Ed. cohort graduate programs offered through EPLT. Tantamount to her many responsibilities is ensuring students receive timely and knowledgeable attention to their questions and concerns thus giving them a level of service that allows a smooth and virtually worry free experience in dealing with the unavoidable and often intimidating administrative processes that they must undertake as part of life at UBC.

LINDA HAFTNER
Linda Haftner, Program Assistant, provides administrative support for the off-campus M.Ed. cohort programs (usually for practicing teachers), alongside colleague Tracey Degner. These are face-to-face degree programs that can be situated far from the university campus. The administrative support consists of providing information, doing tasks for the students, and solving their administrative problems, allowing them to avoid feeling isolated from UBC and helping them to concentrate on their studies.


Dave Roy  

Dave Roy
David Roy is the Senior Program Assistant for the Master of Educational Technology (MET) on-line master's program, consisting of a 30-credit master's degree or one of two 15-credit graduate certificates. He handles all admission, as well as administrative, inquiries for the program. David is generally the first point of contact for all potential and current MET students.

Rosamma Verghese is the EPLT secretary providing administrative support including scheduling, correspondence, preparing reports and presentations, organizing and coordinating special events, and general reception duties.
