WorksafeBC is a strong supporter of the Master's in Vocational Rehabilitation Counselling program at the University of British Columbia.  Through this program, the University of British Columbia is contributing to the building of an academic base for the profession of vocational rehabilitation in Canada.

It has been our experience that graduates that we have already hired from the program begin their career with WorkSafeBC with a solid base of knowledge and are well-prepared for meeting the needs of the injured workers and employers in their community.

HBT has benefited from having one of their rehab consultants attend the UBC Master Voc Rehab program.  The individual who participated in the program was already experienced, but her participation in formal rehab training certainly enhanced her skill level and ability to be more of an effective rehab counselor.

This was evident in the types of questions she added to her assessment process, the clearer parameters she developed with her clients, her ability to recommend more goal oriented plans and her increased comfort with clients who have dual diagnosis.   She has applied her learning as well in environments where her peers have benefited from her increased abilities.

Maria Howard, M.Ed., (Rehab) CCRC
Program Manager, Early Intervention Services
