Information for Online Instructors
Information for instructors
This page contains information of interest to instructors working with online programs at UBC. General information for UBC instructors can be found here.
Faculty Service Centre
- You should have a login and id required to access the FSC portal. This will allow you to view your class-list, send group E-Mails prior to the opening of the course and enter final grades.
- The FSC is accessed at: www.students.ubc.ca/fsc (You may wish to bookmark this URL as it will be used to download your class list, batch email your class and submit grades).
- If you are unable to access the course you teach through FSC, please contact Jo-Anne Chilton, EPLT Program Assistant at (604) 822-3999
- If you require training on the Faculty Service Centre (grades entry/class lists) please contact: Colette Roche: 822-2263 colette.roche@ubc.ca
- If you have any questions, please contact SIS Security: SISSecurity@students.ubc.ca
Campus-Wide Login (CWL)
As of January 2004, all instructors who teach online need a CWL account. Along with your email address, your CWL ID will be the primary identifier you use in making contact with support resources on campus. If you haven’t set up your CWL account yet, click here:

Communicating with Students
Email
Classes in the Faculty of Education make use of broadcast e-mail to communicate with students and post course materials on internet sites. In order that they are able to receive such messages and have access to such course material, all students are encouraged to obtain an email account and have access to a web browser that ensures compatibility with UBC's systems. Some classes will use bulletin boards, chat facilities and other programs depending on the requirements of their program and their interests.
Resources
This special service makes the UBC library collection available to independent study students. Materials in high demand, or those which do not circulate cannot be sent off campus, but photocopies are provided where possible.
UBC Academic Policies
Independent study courses, either online or paper format, are subject to the same academic regulations as face-to-face courses. Of particular interest are the regulations about plagiarism, http://www.library.ubc.ca/home/plagiarism/; extensions on course work, withdrawals and penalties and grading standards.
Please familiarize yourself with these regulations by consulting the UBC Calendar, online at http://students.ubc.ca/calendar/
